MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF ART, ART HISTORY, AND DESIGN MASTER OF FINE ARTS EXHIBITION
CATALOG DESIGN, SPRING 2023
ARTISTRY, CLARITY, LEGIBILITY
The primary function of the MFA Exhibition Catalog is to provide visitors to the exhibition with more information about the work that they are viewing, celebrate the Thesis work of the graduating MFA Candidates, serve as documentation and a permanent record of this exhibition, and is also used for recruitment and outreach for the Michigan State University Department of Art, Art History, and Design Master of Fine Arts Program.
The concept behind my design was to give a nod to the artistic nature of the exhibition and program without focusing too closely on any one of each artist’s areas of work. The printmaking texture on the cover is bold and eye-catching and plays into themes surrounding the handmade but won’t be confused with any of the artist’s work. The interior of the catalog is designed to allow the art to be the sole focus and speak for itself. The typography and design elements are minimal and clarify the information presented rather than distracting from the Critic statements and artist images.
